August 21st 2013 500,000 young campaigners say Every Child Needs a Teacher!
Young people from 4,800 schools took part in this year's Send My Friend to School campaign, speaking up in solidarity with the millions of children around the world who are missing out on an education.
To draw attention to the 1.7 million teachers that are missing from classrooms around the world, children made paper cutouts of teachers.
These were decorated with words and pictures illustrating the qualities that make an ideal teacher and presented to local Members of Parliament, asking for their help to ensure that world leaders keep their promise and ensure education for all by 2015.
Schools also held special events, contacted their local media, made displays and raised awareness about the need for more teachers around the world.
Our campaign highlights:
2 young campaigners went to the UN for the world’s first ever UN youth takeover to hear Malala Yousafzai speak and to meet young education campaigners from around the world

August 21st 2013 The young generation have a chance to influence world leaders
by Sam and Millie, Send My Friend to School Young Ambassadors
When we were asked to attend Malala Day at the United Nations in New York we felt very honoured!
Finally, Malala Day came. It is impossible to convey the emotion that charged the room where 450 young people had gathered from all over the world. As we all fell silent, dignataries from the UN entered with the star of the day among them... Malala!
There was an explosion of sound to welcome Malala to the microphone. Malala's spech was truly inspirational and was one of the most moving speeches we have ever heard.
We hope this event is the first of many, so that we, as the young generation, have a chance to influence world leaders and continue to bring international media attention to this issue. It made us realise how much potential power and influence we can have if we work together. The day will never be forgotten!
We must and will continue to campaign in the UK as a result of the commitments we made at the...read more

National News from Nigeria by Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA)
As the demand for teachers continue to rise on the post 2015 education agenda, emphasize is been placed on the quality of teachers across the globe and its effects on the learning outcome of pupils. Quantifying the future need for more teachers is a first step towards informed planning and policy making in the education sector. The need for quality teachers in the education system today cannot be over emphasized considering the recent decay in student performance. In Nigeria, analysis has show that the poor performance of student at different levels of education could be attribute to the quality of teachers we have in our school system today. At the basic education level, the learning outcomes of students is on the decrease as students cannot read or write or solve simple arithmetic as expected at a given level.
CSACEFA believes that every child has the right to a quality education, and no child has a chance of realizing that right without an quality teacher. In realizing...read more

However due to a teacher lockout we have had to postpone our event to the 23. May, since teachers and their students would not have been able to attend. This doesn’t mean that the Danish students have been left in the dark regarding the campaign of this year, though.
170.000 students have participated in the Danish Reading Rocket. The Reading Rocket is a school book that educates about interculturality, drawing examples from Latin-American and Africa. This year we have focused on the Latin-American country Nicaragua, and the need for educated teachers. Our campaign has run every spring for the past 10 years and continues to be very popular. Half of all Danish schools receive and use our materials.
In Denmark the working conditions and pay of the teachers is negotiated between the teachers union and the local districts association. This year...read more
